Coconut for health?! Yes!

We have been using organic virgin coconut oil and milk in our home for about six months now and have literally replaced all other cooking oils and butters with coconut oil, plus we use coconut milk for smoothies and baking. Not only have we not gained weight, we have lost all the weight we needed following our eating plan plus coconut.

From Organic Facts:
The health benefits of coconut oil include hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer, dental care, and bone strength. Once mistakenly thought to be bad because of its saturated fat content, coconut oil is now known to contain a unique form of saturated fat that actually helps prevent heart disease, stroke, and hardening of the arteries.

The saturated fat in coconut oil is unlike the fat found in meat or other vegetable fats. It is identical to a special group of fats found in human breast milk that have been shown to improve digestion, strengthen the immune system, and protect against bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. These fats, derived from coconut oil, are now routinely used in hospital IV formulations and commercial baby formulas. They're also used in sports drinks to boost energy and enhance athletic performance.

Another incredible fact about coconut oil is that even though it is a fat, it actually promotes weight loss!! The reason is again because of the healthy medium chain fatty acids. These fatty acids do not circulate in the bloodstream like other fats, but are sent directly to the liver where they are immediately converted into energy, just like carbohydrates. So the body uses the fat in coconut oil to produce energy, rather than be stored as body fat.

Although it gets a bad rap in some circles for its high saturated fat content, we know that such fats can offer many health benefits. For example, coconut oil has been found to help normalize blood lipids and protect against damage to the liver by alcohol and other toxins, can play a role in preventing kidney and gall bladder diseases, and is associated with improved blood sugar and insulin control and therefore the prevention and management of diabetes. In addition, coconut oil has antiviral, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. On a more superficial level, meanwhile, coconut oil is thought to help strengthen mineral absorption, which is important for healthy teeth and bones, and can also help improve the condition and appearance of the scalp, hair and skin when ingested or topically applied.

Virgin Coconut Oil is widely reported in the literature and on the Internet to have tremendous health benefits in the following:

Improving digestion and encouraging weight loss
Increasing metabolism and energy levels
Helping sluggish thyroid
Eradicating yeast infections
Clearing up skin infections, pimples
Killing viruses
Coconut oil is an important diet addition for everyone. It is safe to use and does not convert to fat in your body. In fact, coconut oil raises body metabolism so that more fat is burned, thus releasing more energy. People consuming coconut oil should experience more vitality. Moreover, coconut oil does not increase cholesterol but to the contrary, actually helps to lower it.
It is now known that transfatty acids found in most vegetable oils are not the healthy substances once believed. These fats are currently considered to be one of the major culprits resulting in modern diseases and obesity.
